Northeastern Illinois University Earth Science Faculty Position Advertisement

Northeastern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the Department of Earth Science.  Appointment begins August 2014. We seek a new faculty member with strengths in fieldwork with expertise in structural geology or geotectonics to provide students with important and necessary training in this area, and to complement and enhance the department’s focus on environmental geosciences.  The successful candidate will be responsible for revision and implementation of our field geology course to encompass our focus on environmental geology, while also providing a strong foundation in the basics of field geology.   Broadly trained structural geologists who can contribute to a variety of courses in the curriculum are especially encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will have a solid background in geology and will teach courses in support of the department’s degree requirements, as well as courses for the general education program and First-Year Experience program, as appropriate.  The department encourages the use of innovative and effective pedagogies, and candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching in classroom, laboratory, and field settings.  The new faculty member will be expected to participate in student advisement, curriculum development, and service at the department, college, and university level.  The new faculty member also will be expected to develop a research program that will actively engage undergraduate students. A Ph.D. in geology or related field at the time of appointment is required; post-doctoral research or related work experience is desirable.
